A FOND FAREWELL
This short newsletter is my last.
I’ve enjoyed the last couple of years of keeping you up to date with events at the Club. But other duties call. I leave this space for another to fill.
Have a safe and joyful holiday season!
See you at the Club. Rik Hafer

HALLOWEEN THREE-WAY A BLAST
That is the report from nearly everyone who participated in this fun shoot on Sunday, October 30. The shoot consisted of 50 skeet, 50 trap and 50 sporting clays. Following the shooting, the two-man teams were drawn while everyone enjoyed a bowl of chili (thanks to Mike Bolinger’s better half), some desert and some good stories about pheasant hunting in states that actually have pheasants.
The winning team was Mark Tompson and Mike Bolinger with a combined score of 255. Second place was a tie between the teams of Brien Koppe/Karl Schoenbeck and Bryan Hayek/John Napoli, both shooting a combined score of 250.
High scores on the individual disciplines were:
Skeet
Don Bryan and Rik Hafer (47)
Trap
Mike Bolinger and Brien Koppe (46)
Sporting clays
Brien Koppe (46)

UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT
Welcome to our new Club Manager - Rex Powers
If you haven’t been to the Club recently, stop by and meet the new manager, Rex Powers. Rex was formally introduced to the Club on September 14 and had a chance to talk with members at the summer skeet league banquet.
Rex is an avid lifetime shooter, from the skeet and trap fields of clubs in Oklahoma (his residence before moving to St. Louis) to hunting “anything that flies.” When asked about his goals for the Club, Rex stated “my job is to make sure that everyone who comes to St. Louis Skeet and Trap is greeted with a smiling face behind the counter, has a good time and leaves happy.”
He also made it very clear that his priority is to increase membership and to increase shooting in every discipline at the Club.
If you have ideas for future shoots and events, Rex asked that you please contact him. He already has plans for some fall events! And, with Mary teaching him the ropes, Rex is up and running.

GIL AND VICKI ASH RETURN
On September 9-11 the instruction team of Gil and Vicki Ash will return to St. Louis Skeet and Trap to lead their renowned sporting clays shooting classes. This is an exciting opportunity for anyone, beginner or advanced shooter alike.
The instructional day runs from 8:30 - 4:30/5:00, with about an hour for lunch (everyone provides their own). Everyone attending a clinic will meet at the clubhouse, fill out a card (even if you have shot with them before) that asks about 15 background questions. Then a group of 5 students and Gil head to the course. He will check everyone out with a few shots, review with everyone what their goals are, and then the fun begins. Gil and Vicki will teach their methods to each student -- at that student’s level.
The cost of this exciting opportunity is a bargain at only $385 for a full day of instruction. More information is available at the Club or through Club manager. If you’d like more information about Gil and Vicki, their methods, and just how in-demand they are.
Check out their website at http://www.ospschool.com.
Last year was a sell-out so register now to ensure your spot!

2ND ANNUAL JOSH BROWN-ADAM WAINWRIGHT CELEBRITY SHOOT
The Club was the site of the 2nd Annual Celebrity Shoot hosted by Josh Brown and Adam Wainwright. The shoot, which took place on Friday, May 6, saw many more attendees than last year. With the Rams and Cardinals players rotating amongst the sporting clays stations, everyone got to rub shoulders with the pros, test their shooting skills and take many photos. And it was all for a good cause.
Proceeds from this year’s shoot benefit Coaches Time Out, a non-profit organization which exists to support, equip, and challenge coaches to live on and off the field in an intentional, character-driven manner influencing lives as well as games.
Thanks to ESPN 101 for their coverage, thanks to the volunteer Club members who made it possible, and thanks to the Club staff (Sonny, Dale, Mary and the trap boys) for making sure that everything went smoothly. We already are looking forward to the 2012 event!
JUNE 5, 2011 GARY SLOCUM: IN MEMORIAM
I regret to report that Gary Slocum, perhaps known best by many of those shooters involved with the Club’s trap program, passed away suddenly on Sunday, June 5. Gary was a tireless contributor to the Club. He was instrumental in building the storage building; he served on the Board of Directors; and he helped run many of the Club’s trap shoots. His friendly smile and easy-going demeanor will be greatly missed by all of us who knew him... Rik Hafer

SPRING IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER!
And you know what that means….potentially damaging floods. We were very fortunate in 2010 to not have any flood-related damage at the Club. This spring looks to be a wet one and with northern snow-melt, we may not dodge the bullet this year.
If you think you would be able to assist in moving machinery out of harm’s way, please contact the Club Manager, and get your name on the volunteer roster. Sometimes we can predict a day or two out when the machinery will need to be moved, but often times it is a last minute decision. If you could help in either instance, it would be much appreciated.
